August VIP - Val Voboril
Val Voboril is an elite Crossfit athlete. She has finished in the top 5 four times at the Crossfit Games and finds jumping tall boxes easier than shopping for non-athletic clothing.  She is not alone.  Many elite and professional athletes are challenged to know what flatters their bodies and what is appropriate for non-athletic events.  Many times, their income depends on sponsorship interests and support.  Sponsors want athletes that "make good copy" on and off the field.  Many athletes look best when they wear as little as possible because it becomes clear quickly that the larger body areas are muscle and not extra mass.
We often think that, "If my weight was down, I could wear anything" or "If I was in really good shape, I could wear everything and anything." Unfortunately, that is not always the case.  Many women, like Val, have shoulders that are broader than their hips, and waists that are not as tiny as they would like because of strong abdominal muscles.  To avoid having the silhouette of an upside-down V, female athletes do best to avoid wearing large stripes and light colors on their top half.  Tight stretchy dresses that cling to their bodies are their friends.  Tiny horizontal stripes are always flattering.   A purse or "bag" that is not a backpack is a good item to own for any woman.  At 5'2" Val learned that workout shirts that were boxy and longer than her waistline shortened the look of her legs and her overall height.  We ALL have something to consider when dressing to showcase our best features. Let's focus on the best and forget the rest.☺

Men Are Clients Too
About 30 % of my Image or Executive Coaching Clients are men - I have less Before & After photos to show you of their transformations because the men tend to be more private about our working together. This client "Jay" was interested in getting ready to date, and also wanting help with the existing clothes in his closet. A successful 40-year old professional, who was working out regularly, he wanted clothes that would flatter. Jay tended to buy his clothes too big and listen to salespeople who wanted to make the sale as quick as possible. Often, you have to be your own advocate. If the jacket doesn't hit the  broadest part of your shoulder, it doesn't fit. If the back of your pants don't lay smoothly across your rear, the size, cut or brand is wrong for you. Baggy jeans are just so unappealing and no one, but no one, should own a pair of New Balance shoes. Just ask Ryan Gosling and I.  Click Here to view video.
Sports Attire
A couple things go through my mind when I see these golf pants.  My first thought is, "Good On Ya."  No doubt this man is having fun and feeling REALLY confident about himself or...he and his friends decided to buy their golf pants from TipsyElves.com.  Clearly these pants or others like them for men or women are not to be worn on a day you want to just blend in.  The second thought that went through my mind was that they had no pleats and they fit him really well.  The third thought was - probably NOT going to be wearing them very often so they just might be a high cost per wear item.  At $60 + tax,  and  worn 6 times, they cost him $10 a wear.  The enjoyment he gets wearing these pants might be well worth the expense.   Not every man wants a pair of these fashion forward fun pants but  I strongly recommend they go through their closets and get rid of ALL PANTS, short or long, that have pleats - which are dated.
Your Color Analysis
I am very excited to have finally found an accurate and inexpensive resource for color analysis - ColorMePretty.co. With the use of digital photos, every man and women would benefit from taking this short survey and submitting their information.  Anja (anja@colormepretty.co) was SPOT ON with her results for me.  For under $39, I got a great color chart and examples of what colors to mix and match.  I had paid $500 to have this done in-person 8 years ago in Scottsdale and the results correlated.  This will narrow down your choice of items to purchase and, no doubt, help you weed out those clothes that have never made you feel good.
Diversity
We are the most comfortable with people that are like us...in the way they sound and in what they view as politically and socially correct.  I teach an Image course at Western University of Dentistry and the wide variations in accents and etiquette norms often joins these students together or initially separates them.  Remember that someone different than you might take longer to warm up to you and your presence.
  • The United States has many regions, and author Colin Woodard argues that it can be divided into 11 sub-nations.
  • Woodard's defined nations range from the "Deep South" to the "Midlands" and "El Norte."
  • The cultural differences between them contribute to the political tensions between states and how they fit into the US overall, he said. Many times, we think we made up our own minds on impactful issues when in fact much of what we project in our image came from generations ago.
The Many Shades of Black
Colors are very impactful.  Brown, even dark brown, holds little weight in terms of strength whereas black, in all it's different variations, communicates strength.  Firestone Walker's beer 805 that is described as a light, refreshing blonde ale created for the laid back California lifestyle,  initially had a logo and branding that was NOT the strong black look they have now. They did not change the description of the beer nor it's process. They only changed the graphics to make a stronger association with a strong taste.  In clothing apparel you will achieve the same results of looking stronger and tougher when you wear black. Wear black but keep in mind that your facial expression will add or subtract to that impression.  My buddy Daniel Cases wears grey well.
30 Point In-Office Assessment
"I have worked with Janice for over 18 years. She has implemented systems that have transformed my office from Wal-Mart to Nordstrom's. She is always current with fresh ideas and plans to help my office succeed in this exciting profession. Last week during a second consultation one of my patients commented on how nice it was that my team spoke the same language with how we presented treatment, that the comfortable atmosphere and the level of care given to each patient is impressive. He said "that we must be working with an expert in their field and that they should be told so." That expert is Janice Hurley I was proud to say. If you want someone that will help you achieve your goals and transform your office into one that sets you apart, then look no further! Thank you Janice for all that you do for me!!
