September VIP - Tina Brown
Our September VIP, Tina Brown, had known for years she wanted to invest in her professional presence. She was working hard to grow her company, Dental Practice Enhancement with speaking engagements and being present at dental conferences showcasing her services. She quickly decided that she could use a little help from head to toe on polishing up that first impression.  She traveled from Pomona, California, for a new haircut and color along with a new understanding of the best formula to flatter her figure.  She invested in quality clothing and one signature piece of jewelry and she has made great use out of her purchases.  We train other people how to treat us and we formulate our opinion of ourselves based on how we receive or don't receive the respect we desire.

Choose a day and let's book your one-on-one time here in San Diego.  You'll be ecstatic with the results.   Janicehurley.com

Mark Your Calendar
I am a firm believer in making time for family and friends. The time flies by all too quickly when we've not seen those we love. I have a large family - I am one of six children and I have four grown children and 12 grandchildren. The best gift I can give them, or they can give me, is time. This photo is a picture of my daughter, Signe on her 41st birthday. We met for dinner the day before her birthday and that time together was priceless. My mother is having her 88th birthday next month. I've had it marked off on my calendar so I can travel to see her. A fancy present sent would never be as meaningful as time carved out and spent together. Group gatherings are fun but sincere focused one-on-one time is the best!
Personalized Professional Stationery

Finding the right card isn't always realistic when communicating to our business clients.  I found that thank you cards are often too feminine for the person I was sending them to or too masculine to be coming from me as the sender.  I inquired through several card companies and printing sources as to what it would cost to print personalized stationery and the cost was prohibitive until I used Staples online.  I ordered cards that were 7 by 5 inches and were a heavy card stock with an envelope to match including my return address on the back. Maybe this is something to think about if you've experienced this same stationery dilemma.
Menswear - Untucked Shirts
The length of your shirt really matters if you choose to wear it untucked.  The longer your torso, the more likely your shirt hits where it should - above the end of your pant zipper.  However, I am seeing way too many cases of men (with larger stomachs who need a larger shirt) wearing their shirts untucked and they are too long and unflattering.  When your tummy is bigger than you'd like, it can be tempting to not tuck your shirt in.  But in reality, you have just designated the area that you are trying to hide as looking bigger because of the excess shirt material over it.  Just trying to help, guys...

Strong Visual Associations
These are both my coffee cups, but they hold entirely different associations for me. I use the solid brown one to drink green tea in the morning - that I thoroughly dislike.  When I look at that brown cup, I associate it with something that will taste bad.  As silly as my mental gymnastics might seem to you, we all do the same thing with different objects.   Experience starts to assign a positive or negative meaning to something and the visual is a quick que to trigger your emotions.  Have you ever been watching a movie where the characters are drinking wine and you quickly decide you need a glass?  The power of suggestion, positive or negative, can be very impactful.
Giving
I was raised to believe that my fair share of giving each month was 10%. That's 10% before taxes. I think the younger you are when these practices are instilled, the easier it is to keep those habits consistent. One of the most rewarding ways to "give" is supporting charities you know locally and charities you know are fiscally responsible. We all have our own special groups close to our heart. This month, supporting The Special Olympics with my fellow Crossfit friends was a privilege. When you give the first 10% you always have enough. When you wait to give the last 10% you are less likely to give. As we already know, we get much more from giving than receiving.
Accessories

My New Favorite Clutch - I am always on the lookout for quality, unique evening handbags.  I particularly like this shape because it is large enough to hold my iPhone and a small wallet.  The pattern on the bag makes it interesting and a good addition to a plain evening black dress.  I am prone to buying solid colored dresses and adding interest with my jewelry and handbags.  I look for these higher end evening bags every time I go to the better discount stores.  If I don't love it, I don't buy it.  Simple as that.
